Abstract

experixznts vicre conducted a t Snkha A~ricult~ral Research Station ?arm during each of the two successive seasons 1577/’78 clxl 1978/79 t o study the e f f e c t of 2,4-DB, ih SC,, and Zil 50, on t.ic prccrt-gn of flower and pod L. shedding on tllc main stem yield and its components and seed quality of Giza 1 field beans v a r i e t y . 2,lev els: 0.20 ~nd40 ppm, were use2 i n combin a t i o n wit11 Mm SO 4- levels of 0, 1000 and 2000 pprn, i n the f i r s t experiment. The sane levels of 2,$-DB were combined wi t h Zn SC4 levels of 0, lGOO and 2000 pprn, i n t h e second experiment, 2,4-DB was sprayed immediately before flowering i.e. a f t e r 45 and 50 days efter sowing i n first and second season, respectively, Xh SO 4 and Zn SOL!- spraye6 on the next day. A E’actorial experiment in a complete randomized block design with four replicates was used i n each experiment’. The combined anal-ysia was conducted between two years to some iin:?.3rtant. characters. TIie planting dstzs were Bovember, 16 and Xov. 18 i n tile first 8nd thz second season, respectively. The results are summarized as f o l l o w s : I- I;’loyer and pod A&- she- -on t-h -e -m ain- -s t.e-m- : 1- I!’lo~er shedding, the level of 40 ppm 2,4-D3, resulted i n &ri i~creasei n the rium’ber o f floners and the percentage of sheGding, while 20 ppm 8id not d i f f e r from the control. i5n SO 4 levels caused E! significaxt effect orr nurrher of flowers. Tlie increase was highly significant only i n the second season. The combination between 20 ppm 2,4-DB and 2000 ppm Mn SOit gave high number of seeds. The effect of Zn SO4 levels on number of seeds/ plent was highly s i g n i f i c a n t . Xoreover, the level of 1000 ppm caused a higher increase i n t h i s as2ect compared with the control and 2OOG ppm. The combined t r e a t - ment of 20 ppm 2,4-El3 and 1OOG ppm Zn SOS caused the highest increase and the increase was significant only i n the second season. 4- The e f f e c t of 2,4-DB, Iih SO 4 or Zn SC4 on number o f seeds per pod and 100 - seed weight - were not significmt, except i n the second season were the two levels of Zn SOS incremed 106 - seed weight s i g n i f i c a n t l y .
