Abstract

Sudden Death Syndrome fSDS)is the primary cause of death in the production of meat-type chickens , ranging from 0.5 to 5 % of the broilers are dying by SDS during the fattening period . It begins as early as 3 days of age with a peak incidence between 3 and 5 weeks of age and continuing to market age . The exact etiology of SDS is still unknown , but it is generally, thought to be a metabolic disorder influenced by nukritional , genetical and environmental factors-Recent studies have indicated that the high growth capacity of broiler breeds are responsible for this problem and the occurace of free radicals may be involved in sudden deaths. Studies reported herein were carried out at the Lindenhof Research Station belonging to Poultry Department, University of Hoherihein, Stuttgart, Gemany. Experinrenks lasted from November 1992 to Mars 1993.
