Abstract The present thesis is concerned with an investigation of electroreduction of some azo and Schiff base compounds derived from 4- aminoquinaldine to obtain full information about the nature of their electrode reaction in buffer solutions of different pH values at the mercury electrode using DC-polarography, cyclic voltammetry and digital simulation. The study was extended to evaluate the pK values of such compounds using spectrophoto~netric methods and calcirla~ion of [llc stability constants of complexes of compounds IA and la with some transition metal ions using potentiometric measurements. The thesis consists of three chapters: Chapter I : includes a literature survey on the previous polarographic and potentiometric studies of organic compounds containing azo and Schiff base linkages. Chapter I1 : includes the method of synthesis of the solid azo and Schiff base compounds derived from 4-aminoquinaldine, preparation of the used solutions, working procedures and measurements using different techniques such as dc-polarography, cyclic voltammetry, digital simulation, potentiometry and spectrophotometry. Chapter 111 : includes the results obtained in the present study. This chapter consists of seven parts: part (I) : includes the results obtained from the dc-polarographic studies of the compounds under investigation in universal buffer solution. |
