Abstract Two comparative feeding trials were carried out to study the effect of rations containing three levels of poultry litter and two levels of urea on the body weight gain and efficiency of feed utflization of Friesian calves. The digestibility and nutritive value of the ra%ions used, as well as ruminal activity and blood urea concentration were also investigated. In the first experiment, I8 calves averaging I20 Kg. body weight and 209 days old were used in a feeding trial of 308 days. The animals were divided into three similar groups : The dietary treatments used were as follow: Treat, A- Wheat straw 33*74% to Berseem hay 6.7W0 + Co-op cubes 44.66% + yellow maize 14.89%.Treat, 13- Wheat straw 34,09% + Berseem hay 6.83% Co-op cubes 29.54% + yellow maiae 17.7% ’0 poultry litter IL,$Wo, Treat. C- Wheat straw 31.42% + Berseem hay + 7.32% + Co-op cubes 12.25% + yelIo% mafee 24.5% -t- poultry lftte~ 24 .5%* In the second experiment, 32 calves averaging I82 Kg. body weight and 344 days old .were used in a feedZng trial of I96 days, They were divided into four sfmllar groups. |
