Abstract

Numerous commercial products of dentin Adhesives have recently become available for bonding composite resin to dentin . Manufacturers frequently claim superior bond strengths for their own products. The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strengths (eit her tensile or shear) of five commercially available dentin bonding agents when used with a single composite resin to determine if there were significant differences or not. Eighty recently extracted sound human molars were labially flatened to expose dentin. Crowns were separated and mounted 111 self-curing acrylic resin . The flat dentin surfaces were polished to 600 grit silicone carbide papers . The crowns were randomly divided into two equal groups . Group I for measuring the tensile bond strengths while Group II for meaSUrIng the shear strengths . The two groups were subd ivided into five equal subgroups (8 crowns each). Each subgroup of the two groups was treated with a different dentin bonding agent according to the manufacturer’s instructions . Composite cylinder of 4mm in diameter was attached to each flat dentin surface using a special teflon mold . Samples were stored in distilled water at 37°.C for 7 days before testing.
