Abstract
The present study was carried out to investigate the response of rabbit spermatozoa to freezing and thawing treatments. Experiments include two breeds, Black Balady and California . Two extenders were tested for diluting rabbit semen , the first was sodium citrate extender (2.9% gm of sodium citrate • 20 % of egg yolk , 500 i.u /100 ml of pencellin , 500 microgram /100 ml of sterptomycin and 8% of glycerd ), and Tris extender ( 3.27% grn / 100 of Tris, 1. 46 % citric acid, 20 % egg yolk. 500 i.u /100 mI of penceline, 500 microgram /100 ml of streptomycin and 8% of glycerol) .
Viability of spermatowa and semen quality were evaluated via:
1- determining normal physical characteristics ( motility, concentration of spermatozoa. live / dead spermatozoa, sperm abnormalities, spem output)
2- determining activity of seminal plasma transaminases (GOT and GPT).
3- determining semen physical charatcristics prior to and after filtration through a sephadex -915 coulmn.
