Abstract In the present study six molluscan species were collected from the marine Egyptian water. Five species from the Red Sea at Hurghada region and one species from the Mediterranean Sea at Abu Qir near Alexandria. The purpose of this study is to know the ultra-structure of the spermatozoa of these species to help in the taxonomy and differentiation of the molluscan species. From the present investigation it was concluded that, three species have spermatozoa of the primitive type and three ones have spermatozoa of the modified type. The species which have primitive type spermatozoa are : Acanthopleura spiniger, Turbo radiatus and Pinctada radiata , while those of the modified type spermatozoa are: Strombus tricornis , Chicoreus ramosus and Octopus vulgaris. |
