Abstract The present study was carried out using imported Friesian herd of Shoha Farm, belonging to Meat and Milk Production Company. This farm is located in Northern part of Nile Delta, about 8 Km north of Mansoura City. The experiment was carried out from January 1986 to August 1988. This work included 106 cows in the first lactation and 79 cows in the second lactation. The suitability of some phenotypic traits as predictors for dairy performance of the experimental animals were studied. Accordingly, cows were classified to udder shape into three groups (bowl, round, and goats shaped udder), according to teat shape into three groups (cylidrical, conical, and funnel shaped teat) and according to ’ teat orifice shape into four groups (tapering, smooth, funnel and disc shaped teat orifice). Additionally, fourteen udder and teat measurements were taken at the end of the first month, then monthly till the end of lactation period of the first and second lactations. Eleven body measurements were taken monthly too in the first and second lactations. |
