Abstract
The present work deals with the grain size, mineralogical, lithological analyses and the microfauna distribution of the bottom sediments in the inner shelf area between Ras El Bar and kilometer 37.0 east of Burullus.The area extends for about 50 km along the mediterranean coast of Egypt. Bottom samples were collected twice along 17 profiles in 1977 and 1978 from the baseline on the beach to a depth of about 6.0 m below sea level.These samples were subjected to grain size analysis for determining their petrographic classes including the estimation of gravel - sandmud and carbonate contents.In addition, determination of the light and heavy minerals, organic matter contents of the samples, as well as, their microfaunal assemblages were carried out. All data obtained were graphically illustrated in diagrams, maps and classic circles.
