Abstract The soils of the area north to wadi El natrun are mostly occupying a part of an old deltaic plain . It comprises broadly two distinct geomorphic units ; a) The deltaic plain and 6 The Depressions . The plain is thought to be formed by the Nile as apart of an old Delta . The depressions (Wadi El natrun – El Ralat Depressions ) are assigned to a young morph tectonic activity. According to the morphopedological features , the soils of the regin comprises the following : 1.Soils of the old deltaic plains including ; a) Gravelly sand soils , b) Calcareous sandy soils with crust formation , c) Calcareous sandy soils with crust formation and gleyed horizon and d) Gleyed sandy soils .All these soils are characterized by a roughly undulating to flat degraded surface covered with a desert pavement with little or scanty vegetation . In general theses soils are characterized by coarse textured materials and a calcareous nature one of the most important features prevailing, in these soils is the crust formation. |
