Abstract This investigation aims to study the effect of tile drainage and nitrogen fertilization level on nitrogen loss by leaching and uptake by wheat plants. Two field experiments were carried out at EL-Serw Research Station ( Damietta Governorate ) during the two seasons 1997/1998 and 1998/99. The split plot design was used with four replicates, the main plots were arranged for tile drainage spacing, while the sub main plots represented the nitrogen fertilizer levels. Soil samples of each experiments were taken namely from the depths of 0-20 and 20-40 cm. respectively and analyzed for the physical and chemical properties. The three spacing of tile drainage are : 1-Tile drainage spacing of 60 m. 2-Tile drainage spacing of 30 m 3-Tile drainage spacing of 15 m. Nitrogen fertilizer treatments were applied as follows : 1-Without N application ( control ) 2-45 kg N/fed. 3-60 Kg N/fed. 4-75 kg N/fed. Each N-fertilizer level was applied in three splitted doses. Along growth season, five plants from each plot were taken at the stages of till ring, flowering and harvesting to study the differential responses of plant growth characteristics. At harvest, grain and straw yields were recorded. |
