Abstract Forty eight male albino Wistar rats were divided into 8 groups of 6 rats each; (1) normal rats, (2) ethanol rats, (3) curcumin treated rats, (4) curcumin+ ethanol treated rats, (5) DDB treated rats, (6) DDB+ ethanol treated rats, (7) curcumin+ DDB treated rats, (8) ethanol+ mix of (curcumin+ DDB) treated rats for 8 weeks. The work was designed to accomplish the following objectives: Histopathological examination of the liver, growth performance, and biochemical study in serum and liver. The liver marker enzymes (GGT, ALT & AST), metabolic parameters (glucose, total lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides, total protein, albumin, globulin), and lipid peroxidation (MDA) in serum and liver were estimated. The present results revealed clearly that Ethanol significantly impairs the antioxidant defense system and inconsequence may lead to significant increase in oxidative stress mainly in the liver. Curcumin and DDB can influence on normalization of cellular metabolism and functions by their powerful antioxidant effect against oxidative damage caused by ethanol. The mixture of curcumin and DDB do not completely ameliorative the hepatotoxicity of ethanol. |
