Abstract

The present study was conducted at Faculty farm, Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University, in cooperation with the Daqahlia Company of Sugar, Egypt. The experimental work was conducted during the period from August, 2007 to June, 2009.The main objectives of this study were: estimation of tops yields, and tops yield / yield roots ratio of some sugar beet varieties in different types of soils(clay and sandy), chemical evaluation for some minerals, oxalate and amino acids contents of sugar beet by-products (FSBT of some varieties, DSBP and molasses), investigation of effect of feeding on DSBT(as roughage ration) with DSBP at the same ration (DSBP as replacement of YC at rate of 50 and 100 % (to increase level of DSBP at 37.5 and 50% from total diet respectively) (with considering DSBT: DSBP: YC ratio) on productive performance of ewes during late pregnancy and suckling period and their male and female lambs performance, study of economic efficiency and relative economical efficiency (%). The main results showed that overall means of SBR and SBT yields as ton/feddan, kg/plant or root/tops (R/T) ratio were 13.82 and 23.66 ton/feddan; 0.49 and 0.85 kg/plant and 1.7, respectively. As affected by soil type, yield of SBR and SBT was higher in clay than in sandy soil in term of ton/feddan and kg/plant. Increasing the yield of SBR and SBT as ton/feddan in clay soil was about 46.4 and 22.11% as compared to the sandy soil. The corresponding increase as kg/plant was 28.4 and 27.3%, respectively. The highest SBR and SBT yields during different culture months were in October as compared to August and September, regardless plant density. The highest SBR and SBT yields when sugar beet was cultured in clay soil were in October month. Ras poly variety had the highest (P<0.05) contents of CP (18.06%) and hemicellulose (13.99%). While, Kawemira variety showed the highest (P<0.05) NDF (32.15%), ADF (19.08%) and cellulose (17.31%). Pleno variety showed the lowest (P<0.05) CP content (15.09%) and NDF content (28.90%).DSBP had lower CP content (10.14%) and higher CF content (21.75 %) and fiber fraction than that in fresh SBT. Gross energy content increased in molasses (16.23%) as compared to fresh SBT and dried SBP. DM content ranged from 65.0 to 79.0%, OM from 89.7 to 91.79%, CP from 3.30 to 6.6%, CF from 0 to 0.3%, EE from 0 to 0.2%, NFE from 86.4 to 87.31% and ash from 8.21 to 17.1%. - Animals fed R3 recorded significantly (P<0.05) the highest values (P<0.05) for digestibility coefficients of DM, CP and CF, while those fed R3 recorded the lowest (P<0.05) digestibility coefficients of DM, CP and EE. Ewes fed R2 showed moderate values. All cell wall contents (NDF, ADF, ADL, hemi-cellulose and cellulose) were affected by the tested ration, being the highest (P<0.05) for R3, and the lowest for R1. While, R2 showed moderate contents. -ُEwes in G3 fed 50% DSBP produced higher (P<0.05) AMY and FCM and lower MFP than those in G1 and G3 fed 25 and 37.5% DSBP, respectively. Ewes in G3 fed 50% DSBP produced lower (P<0.05) MPP and higher lactose yield than that in G1 and G2 fed 25 and 37.5% DSBP, respectively. Ewes in G3 fed 50% DSBP produced higher (P<0.05) yield of TS and SNF than those in G1 and G2 fed 25 and 37.5% DSBP, respectively. Ewes in G3 fed 50% DSBP produced higher (P<0.05) milk energy and lower as and Mg contents in milk than those in G1 and G2 fed 25 and 37.5% DSBP, respectively. -Average daily feed intake from CFM and total DM intakes decreased in G2 and G3 by increasing level of DSBP from 25% in G1 to 37.5 and 50%, respectively. However, the differences in the other growth parameters were not significant. Also, final LBW and feed intakes from DSBP, CFM and total of were higher in male than female lambs. There was a tendency of higher final LBW and gains in G as compared to those in G2 and G3. Nearly similar feed efficiency was obtained on the basis of intakes as DM, TDN and DCP. -Average feed cost as LE /h/d per lamb was lower for lambs in G2 and G3 than that in G1 by about 10.6 and 14.8 %, respectively, and was higher for male than female lambs by about 4.3 %. - It could be recommending that replacement dried sugar beet pulp at rate of 50 and 100% of yellow corn (37.5 and 50 % from total ratio) on ewes ration during late pregnancy and suckling periods, while replacement dried sugar beet pulp at rate of 100% of yellow corn (50 % from total ratio) improved birth weight and average daily gain of lambs, also resulted highest milk yield and energy produced of ewes.
