Abstract

This study was carried out on 40 patients between
years of age, chosen at random, from the out—patient clinic of Oral Surgery Department, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Man soura.
They were apprehensive of recieving treatment under local analgesia and/or suffering from dental pain. The patients were assigned to four groups
The first group : (control group) : ten patients (6 males and 4 females), their age ranged between 25 — 30 years, were given local analgesia only. Arterial blood pressure and pulse rate were recorded.
The second group : ten patients (5 males and 5 females), their age ranged 25 — 34 years, were recieved intramuscular injection of diazepam, in a dose of 0.1 — 0.2 mg./kg. body weight, as a pre—operative sedation. Arterial blood pressure and pulse rate were recorded before giving sedation. 15 minutes after seda—
-Aon, and every 15 minutes till the endof surgery. Analgesia score and sedation score were recorded.
