Abstract Cichlid fishes are considered as a highly valued fish food in Egypt. Interest in diseases and parasites of cichlid fishes continues to grow with increasing development of fish cultivation. Development of aquaculture has resulted in paying attention to parasites infections and their impact on growth and behavior of fish. The present thesis was concerned to study the histology of the normal (non-infected) and histopathological changes of infected gills and stomach of the cichlid fish species (Oreochromis niloticus, O. aurens, Sarotherodon galilaeus and Tilapia zillii). The present thesis was also concerned to study the effectiveness of the two substances on the detachment rate (%) and the mortality rate (%) of the adult parasites. The first substance is the manufactured natural product Allium sativum and the second is the chemical antiparasitic agent praziquantel. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the topographical structures of the monogenean parasites Cichlidogyrus spp., Enterogyrus spp. and the copepodean parasite Lamproglena minuta and compared to those treated with half lethal concentrations of the two substances; namely praziquantel and Allium sativum (garlic). |
