Abstract

The thesis entitled “Separation of Samarium-153 from its Irradiated Targets by Different Methods“comprises four chapters, introduction, review of literature, experimental, and results and discussion.

Chapter (I), introduction includes a brief accounts on the applications of radioisotopes and 153Sm radioisotope, choice of radioisotope for medical applications, radioisotope production, factors affect the specific activity of the produced radioisotope, the choice of target isotope and target encapsulation, types of accelerators, general notes about different samara-ium isotope, samarium properties separation methods by solvent extraction and ion-exchange.
Chapter (II), review of literature, this chapter includes a brief account on the methods of production of samarium-153 by reactors and cyclotrons, methods of separation of samarium from other lanthanide elements. It also includes a previous literature of samarium and medical uses of samarium-153.

Chapter (III), experimental, this chapter includes reagents, chemicals, materials, description of instrumentations used. Also, it includes experim- ental procedures, the techniques used for production, solvent extraction, separation, and quality control of the separated 153Sm radioisotope based on solvent extraction using DCH18C6 ether.
Chapter (IV), results and discussion, represents the obtained results and their discussion.
