Abstract

Nutrition before and during pregnancy plays extremely important role in ensuring maternal and infant health. The study aimed to evaluate the nutrition and health status of pregnant women in rural and urban of the areas in Dakhlia governorate, provide the necessary advises to correct the current nutritional status for pregnant women. The studied sample included 140 pregnant women in the age group between (17-35) years old, using to collect information included: socioeconomic status, food habits, anthropometric measurements and health status. The result showed that: The high percentage for those who eating breakfast representing (64.3 and 81.4%) in urban and rural, as hemoglobin level the majority (51.4%) were low ≤ 10 g/dl, compared with (85.7%) were moderate ≤ 12 g/dl in urban and rural, respectively, the common problems during pregnancy in urban were vomiting with anemia while in rural were continous constipation. It could be noticed that, no significant correlation coefficients with anthropometric measurements and each of family size, educational level, work status, the work of husband, income level and income source.
It could be noticed from the previously results the following recommendations: Nutrition education for pregnant women should be stepped up at antenatal clinice especially in rural areas, instructions especially for the pregnant women to improve the pattern of food, increased consumption food rich in protein namely (meat, meat products and fish) to fill the inextricable element zinc and moderation in the consumption of drinking tea and carbonated beverages
