Abstract 17/40 patients (42.5%) improved after surgery with excellent outcomes, 11/40 patients(27.5%) experienced good outcomes, 8/40 patients(20% ) improved with moderate outcomes meanwhile, 4/40 patients(10%)did not have any improvement of their symptoms belonging to the transperineal with and without levatorplasty groups(groups 3&4). There was a significant difference between improved and non-improved cases of the transperineal with and without levatorplasty (groups 3&4) as regarding preoperative disease duration, MRP and FLAC. The satisfactory clinical data combined with improvement in anorectal manometry and defecographic findings after transanal manual or stapled repair could encourage us to prefer this kind of surgery in management of rectocele. The present study demonstrated that repair of rectocele using a linear stapler was an easy and safe procedure, with a low rate of complication and good long term results. The overall cost related to the use of a stapler did not seem to be prohibitive compared with the manual approach as it was characterised by the shortest time at operation and hospital stay (one-day surgery). |
