Abstract The genetic materials used in the present study included the four cultivars i.e., Marconi Rosso , California Wonder , Fushimi Long Green and Vikima . All these cultivars belong to the species Capsicum annuum L. .Therefore , these cultivars were planted and each cultivar were selfed for three generations at El- Baramoon Experimental Station , Horticulture Research Institute . In the summer season of 2001 , all single crosses including the reciprocals were made among these cultivars according to a complete diallel crosses mating system . These crosses yielded 6 F 1 hybrids (F1) and 6 F1 reciprocal hybrids (F1r ) . Seeds from each cross were planted during the summer season of 2002 to produce the F 2 generations (F2 ) and F 2 reciprocal generation (F 2r ) . In the 2003 season , all genotypes were evaluated includeing, 4 parents , 6 F1 and 6 F1r hybrids . While , in 2004 season , 4 parents , 6 F1 , 6 F1r hybrids , 6 F2 and 6 F2 r generations were evaluated . F1 Gedion was used as a control cultivar in the two experimental seasons (2003 & 2004) . A randomized complete blocks design with three replications was used to evaluate these genotypes . Therefore , in view of the results of this investigation two recommendation would be declared .The first , is the suggestion for growers to use either the superior F1 hybrids which obtained by crossing ”Marconi Rosso x California Wonder” and ”Marconi Rosso x Fushimi Long Green” and / or there reciprocal F1 hybrids in their observational trials, both gave high yielding and significantly exceeded the better parent .The second recommendation , is to use the hybridization as a breeding program for improveing the yield traits . Selection in the segregating generations of pepper is recommended to recover superior lines to used in the commercial production or breeding programes |
