Abstract Cervical cancer is an important public health problem among women in developing countries where it is the second common cancer following breast cancer. In contrast , since the implementation of broad-based screening in developed countries, the incidence of cervical cancer has DROPped by 90% The methods that could be used for screening include Pap Smear, Human Papillomavirus DNA testing, Acetic acid test, Cervicography, Speculoscopy, and Spectroscoy Although Pap. Smear represents the gold standard for screening for cervical carcinoma , its use in the developing countries is limited due to technical and financial difficulties. Screening by VIA seems to be a promising approach due to simplicity, low cost and immediate results.Aim of the work: is to highlight the evolution of different methods used for early detection of cervical carcinoma. A special emphasis is given to the magnitude of the problem and the methods used for detection in developing countries |
