Abstract This prospective study was designed to evaluate the effect of sevoflurane and Propofol, as induction and maintenance agents, on the adrenocortical and metabolic adaptation of mothers and neonates during and after cesarean section Patients of the first group were anesthetized with thiopentone sodium followed by Isoflurane 1.2% and was considered as the control group. Anesthesia of the second group was induced with sevoflurane 7%. Followed by sevoflurane 2% Patients of the third group were induced with Propofol 2 mg/kg, it was found that sevoflurane increased cortisol level in mothers at time of delivery and one hour after delivery, whereas, Propofol increased cortisol level only one hour after delivery.. Neonates showed increased cortisol and glucose level one hour after delivery in both groups. Neonatal outcome was better in Propofol group rather than sevoflurane group as proved by Apgar score and NACS. |
