Abstract Background : Anemia is one of the most frequent complications related to pregnancy. The most common true anemias during pregnancy are iron deficiency anemia. Sever anemia may have adverse effects on the mother and the fetus. Aim of the work: The aim of the present study was to further elucidate the usefulness of sTFR as a marker of iron deficiency during pregnancy. Also to investigate the sequential changes in sTFR concentration according to gestational age in anemic and iron deficiency erythropoiesis pregnant females. Methods: This work was carried on 65 pregnant females they were classified into anemic and non anemic groups according to WHO criteria. In addition 15 cases of normal pregnant females as a control group. All cases were subjected to tests for iron status which include transferrin receptor concentration. Results: The value of sTFR increased with gestational age during normal pregnancy with no changes in other iron markers. The value of sTFR increased with gestational age in anemic and iron deficiency erythropoiesis with changes other iron markers. Conclusion: from the above study sTFR can?t be differentiate between IDE and IDA because it increases in both. Iron status mast be done for every case to diagnose IDE and IDA during pregnancy. |
