Abstract The goal of this study was to determine the cytophotometric DNA content, Agnor counts and to correlate their analysis data to the histopathology of different salivary gland tumors. The present study was conducted on 54 formalin fixed, paraffin embedded archival biopsies of salivary gland tumors, 14 normal salivary gland tissue surrounding the tumor specimens were used as an internal control for both DNA content and AgNOR counts. from each specimen 6 serial sections were obtained, two of them were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, in order to diagnos ubclassify different tumor cases. Two sections were stained with Feulgen reaction for single cell cytophotometric studies, while the remaining two sections were stained with silver for the demonstration of NORs.two additional sections from MIEC cases were stained with Alcian blue stain in order to subclassify them cases. On histological diagnosis 10 cases were diagnosed as PAs3 cases were. : - MPA, 18 cases were AdCC. 9 cases were MIEC.6 cases were ACC,6 cases were AC and only 2 cases were diagnosed as WT.According to the findings of the present work it could be concluded that: 1-Tumor encapsulation and pattern of invasion were irrelible for the: — determination of tumor behavior because of the following reasons: a- These findings were not correlated to currently used .a: histological grading or subtyping of the studied cases. |
