Abstract - Hand hygiene is the most important and is considered the corner stone in prevention of neonatal nosocomial infections and it can be done by using antimicrobial soap and water. Alcohol-based hand rub should be available at the entrance to the nursery room especially in areas with high work load. Category (IA). - Educational programs must be done for health care workers (HCWS) regarding hand hygiene practices and proper line management Category (II). Monitor HCWS adherence to the recommendations of hand hygiene practices by providing personnel with information regarding their performance. Category (IA). - Preventive measures should be followed during routine care for newborn including ocular prophylaxis, skin care, respiratory care and nutrition as recommended by Cochrane and Vermont Oxford reviews. - Proper line management using maximal barrier precautions during catheter insertion and education and training of HCWS who insert the catheters. Category (IA). |
