Abstract

Background Aims: Postoperative pain is unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual potential tissue damage. aiming from this current study to compare the effect of epidural ropivacaine versus epidural ropivacaine added sufentanil and or clonidine, on the time of onset of action of atracurium, bolus dose and duration of bolus dose of atracurium in mg, total dose and duration of total dose of atracurium in mg guided by T1 % Tof % using datex relaxogram instrument. Methods: The current study was carried on sixty adult patients of either sex with age ranging from 25 - 60 years admitted to surgical department in Mansoura University Hospital and scheduled for elective surgery. The study was approved by responsible authorities and informed consent was secured from all patients. Results: Epidural peak sensory level was significantly increased in RS, RC and RSC groups in comparison to R group. Time to peak sensory level was significantly decreased in RSC group in comparison to R group. Conclusion: Total dose of muscle relaxant atracurium was significantly decreased in RS, RC and RSC groups in comparison to R group. There was no significantly change in between the four groups as regard time of onset of action, bolus dose, and duration of bolus dose of atracurium.
