Abstract
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a major cause of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity all over the world. Quality of life as an outcome variable has become an important measure in clinical research. Making a transition from a ”biomedical model” of health to one that incorporates it with the social aspects of disease. Clinicians and researchers dealing with chronic illness now incorporate quality of life measures into clinical practice and research. This study comprised 100 patients with chronic CHF (86 females and 14 males), and age ranging from (13 to 75 years), compared to 20 control subjects (15 females and 5 males), and age ranging from (17 to 72 years). From the above results, we concluded that, quality of life was greatly impaired in CHF. All SF-36 domains were correlated with clinical and echocardiographic indices of CHF severity. The ability of SF-36 questionnaire to detect association with congestive heart failure severity suggest that it can be an additional valid, reliable and important outcome in clinical trials designed to modify the course of CHF.
