Abstract Facial nerve paralysis is the most common of all peripheral nerve lesions (Grear et. al., 1974). In the present study, unilateral experimental facial nerve transaction with legation as well as facial crush were done, as an experimental models representing complete and partial nerve lesions respectively. 106 adult albino rats were used. They were arranged three groups as follows : I : Subjected to unilateral transaction and legation of the facial nerve at its exit from the stylomastoid foramen with resection of a segment from the distal II subjected to unilateral crushing of facial at its exit from the stylomastoid foramen. III: used as control. The operated on animals were followed up for clinical evidence of facial nerve palsy as well as possible of recovery Six rats from each of the operated on groups and control animals were sacrificed at 3, 7, 10, 15, 20 30 postoperative days and 10 rats at the 60-th postoperative day. |
