Since cholecystectomy is one of the most frequently and successfully perfonned operations, persistence or development of postoperative symptoms is embarrassing to the surgeon and a source of ’ discomfort to the patient. Doudenogastric reflux occurs after cholecystectomy due to the continuous flow of bile in the duodenum which is not related to meal. This is aggravated further by the impaired function of the antropyloric motor unit. Subsequent symptoms have been related to the increased incidence of gastritis. The aim of this work is to detect the effect of cholecystectomy on gastric antral mucosa. This study includes 46 patients (20 male & 26 female) with mean age 41.7 years for whom cholecystectomy for gallstones was decided. Patients were subjected before operation and one year after for the following : symptom assessment, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, with taking two : antral biopsies one for histopathological examination and detection of H. pylori using Giemsa stain and the other for DNA
