Abstract
Our study comprised 40 patients from inpatient wards and outpatient clinics, internal medicine department in Mansoura University Hospital. All the patients were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, biochemical and serological investigation (HCV, HBV, and HGV). Our aim of work is to clarify the clinical and laboratory features of HGV infection among patients with chronic viral hepatitis or patients with non-B non-C hepatitis and also to study its mode of transmission. Our study has revealed that HGV infection has comprised 15 % of our cases of chronic liver disease . Our study revealed that five patients out of six (83.3 %) had a history of blood transfusion and all the cases had a history of hospitalization (100%). This positive history of blood transfusion in most of the cases has an on the suggestion on mode of transmission yet, one could ask whether that blood transfusion is a cause or a result. On the other hand, the biochemical profile that shown that 1/3 of cases was ! associated with enzyme elevation and 1/2 was associated with jaundice and hyperbilirubinaemia.
