Abstract

Nosocomial infection is the infection that acquired within the hospital after. at least 72 hours of admission provided that the patient was free from any sings or symptoms of infection prior to hospital ization . Antinuclear antibodies (A.N.A.) are important immunological tool in the laboratory diagnosis of autoimmure diseases and schistosomiasis. The aim of the current study is to diagnose and identify The nosocomial infection in specific group of patients with schistosomiasis and/or autoimmune diseases and also to detect A.N.A. in those patients at the time of admission to the hospital and after the development of nosocomial infection to detect the effect of nosocomial infection in the presence and titre of A.N.A. A total of 100 patients were included in this study and were classified into 3 main groups according to the disease they suffer from. Group (A) includes 40 patients who suffer from schistosomiasis only. Group (B) consists of 35 patients who were suffering from autoimmune diseases and lastly group (C) consists of 25 patients who were suffering from both bilharziasis and autoimmune disease.
