Abstract Injury in some shape or form is a part of everyday life. Yet, its consequences may alter radically the life of the individual, his family and his community. More than one third of all hospital admissions are the results of accidents. Half of these casualities are mostly young and males. Trauma is the principal cause of death between ages 1 and 4S and the third or fourth leading cause of death in all age groups allover the world. The final outcome is directly related to the completen¬ess and competency of the initial evaluation consisting of a detailed history and rapid thorough examination and mana¬gement. A thorough neurological examination is done when the patient is first seen. The objectives of initial management of the acutely injured patient are: 1.resuscitation of the patient with treatment of life-threat- ening injuries. 2.determination of the priorities. 3.detection of all injuries. 4.preparation of definitive treatment. |
