Abstract

Hepatorenal syndrome begins as advanced liver disease complicated with progressive renal failure. The pathogenesis of this syndrome is incompletely understood and the role of bile acids have not yet been involved 1n the pathogenesis of this syndrome. In this work, we studied the role of bile acid administration in normal rats and in hepatotoxic rats. The study included the following groups: Group I: To study the effect of oral cholic acid administra- tion 2S mg/kg body weight daily for 10 days on hepatic and renal functions in normal rats: resulted in a nonsig¬nificant change in both hepatic and renal functions as compared with normal rats. Group II: To study the effect of oral cholic acid during and after”tnduction of hepatic necrosis induction of hepatotoxicity: By oral paracetamol administration 400 mg/kgm body weight daily for 10 days: There is significant increase in serum bilirubin, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, urea, creatine, and sodium, serum albumin was significantly.
