Abstract The present work was conducted to study the e-F-Fect of ex methyldopa (centrally acting 0:2 agonist) on glucose tolerance, plasma insulin, c-peptide and cortisol levels in rabbits with induced cerebral ischemia. The data obtained in this study could be summarized as -Follows:¬1- 0: methyldopa injection in the dose o-F 50 mg/kg body weight/day for two successive days induced a better outcome of glucose to lerance and a cort i so I lower i ng e-F-Fect under these stress-Fu I conditions, declaring an anti-stress e-F-Fect o-F the drug. Also, insulin and c-peptide secretions were -Found to be stimulated by 0: methyldopa. 2- Cerebral ischemia was -Followed by reduction of plasma glucose level which may be attributable to the impaired neurological -Functions secondary to the ischemic insult. 3- 0: methyldopa when administrated before induction o-F cerebral ischemia was -Followed by return of the plasma glucose levels nearly to the pre-ischemic levels, suggesting an anti-stroke e-F-Fects o-F the drug which could be attributable to the protective e-F-Fect of ex methyldopa against the impairment of neuronal -Functions mediated by the ischemic insult. Also, plasma cortisol level returned to the pre-ischemic state. Insulin and c-peptide levels were -Found to increase throughout the times o-F the tolerance curve, con-Firming . |
