Abstract This work represent a retrospective study of developmental sequelae in 3 groups of high risk infants ”preterms, infants of diabetic mothers, and those who have suffered from perinatal asphyxia, during admission in the neonatal care unit, Mansoura University, through out two years’ period 1987. The total number of subjects 1985 submitted to this study was 60 babies 20 infants had suffered from perinatal asphyxia, 20 infants of diabetic mothers, and 20 simple preterms. Each group was compared to 20 normal newborns who were full-term. These cases were seen at post-natal ages varying from 9-36 months in the follow UP neonatal clinic in the same hospital. All the babies were subjected to the following: 1- Thorough history taking i.rocluding developmental history. 2- Fu 11 clinical examination including neurological evaluation, and anthropometric measurements. 3- Developmental assessment using Gesell screening for determination of the developmental quotient. 4- EEG studies were done on 16 asphxiated babies 10 preterms, and 8 infants of diabetic mothers. |
