Abstract

Perinatal asphyxia is an important cardiac dysfunction. cause of neonatal This work has attempted to evaluate different forms of function impairment in asphyxiated fullterms and relat~ them to the clinical presentation and course in neonatal period. Also. we aimed to detect the earliest echocardiographic and/or enzymatic improvements and the best parameter (s) which predict early improvment. For this purpose we have chosen 20 fullterm experienced neonatal asphyxia and 10 babies infants who of matched gestational age and weight. not experienced asphyxial stress as acontrol group. All patients and controls were subjected to ,thorough clinical examination of different organ systems with special stress on cardiovascular system and the following investigations were done ( Mlenever possible );- CXR-PA view, -Echocardiography (M-mode. Two-dimensional and doppler) at day one, one week and two weeks and determination of total serum. CK and CK-MB fract i on at day one and one we ek of age.
