Abstract Forty-three patients had revision of cemented total hip arthroplasty through the period January 1990-June 1995 were reviewed. The indications for revision in this group were cup loosening in 17patients, stem loosening in 13 patients, both components loosening in 4 patients, early instability in 5patients and late instability in 4 patients. Standard revision technique were used in 33patients, Cement-within-cement technique were used in 7patientsand 3patients had a transfemoral technique for revision. Morselized cancellous femoral heads allograft ,were used in reconstruction of the e deficient bone stock. Acetabular compressed cancellous ships in 13patients, impacted d cancellous allograft for the femur in 8patients and for both sides in one patient. Patients were evaluated pre-operatively, one-year following revision and at the end of the follow-up using Harris hip scoring system. At every stage of the evaluation plain radiographs were taken and carefully observed for any sign of complications. The mean follow-up period were 41 months ranges between 17 to 84 months. |
