Abstract The present study was perfonned to evaluate the efficacy and complications of panretinal photocoagulation in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. One hundred eyes of 85 patients have been treated. Eyes were classified according to the clinical presentation into 3 groups . GrouJl I : proliferative diabetic retinopathy with new-vessels at the disc. GrouJl II : Proliferative diabetic retinopathy with new-vessels elsewhere and new-vessels at the disc. Group Ill: Proliferative diabetic retinopathy with new vessels elsewhere. Each group was classified into 2 groups according to the presence or absence of maculopathy. All eyes were classified into 2 groups according to the number of retinopathy risk factors. Eyes with three or more factors were considered high risk, while eyes with less than three factors were considered low risk. Alet/wds of treatment : All cases were treated with argon laser using the pan-retinal photocoagulation technique. If maculopathy was associated it was treated with focal photocoagulation or grid pattern according to type of maculopathy whether it is focal or diffuse respectively. |
