Abstract Since the advent of high resolution grey scale ul trasonography which can visual ize the gall bladder I many reports on the gall bladder stones and wall thickness have been published so how many of these reports have clinical significance. The aim of this work is to screen patients with liver cirrhosis of various aetiologies for different gall bladdec changes as revealed by ultrasonographic study. Fourty two patients compared to 10 normal controls were subjected to complete clinical examination, liver function tests, serum cholesterol, serum triglycerides, serum HDL serum estradiol and abdominal ultrasonogrpahy. Cl inically, it was found that 7 patients (16.7%) had jaundice, 4 patients (9.5%) had oedema lower limb, 31 patients (73.8%) had ascites, 2 patients (4.8%) had evidences of liver cell failure. History of haematemesis and melena was given in 30 patients (71.4%). All patients gave history of intestinal bilharziasis and anti-bilharzial treatment. |
