Abstract

This retrospective study was performed on 79 patients suffering from Portel hypertension and submitted for surgical interferance to lower the portal blood pressure They were classified into 4 groups;- (1) First group included ’’I’, patients submitted for distal splenorenal shunt operation (2) Second group included 39 patients submitted for Hassab operation Third group included 7 patients submitted for splenectomy and left gasteric vein ligation operation Fourth group included 8 patients submitted for coronorenal shunt operation The files of these patients were reviewed and following data were recorded preoperative and after one week postoperative: Serum albumim, globulin • bilirLibin,alkaline phosphatase, SGOT, SGPT and prothrombin time Also-preoperative liver biopsy were recorded All patients premedicated with (0.2 mg.Kg diazepam intramuscular. One hour before anaesthesia, anaesthesia was induced by thiopentone sodium, atropine and endotracheal intubation was facilitated by suxamethonium Anaesthesia was maintained with nitrous oxide-oxygen and muscle relaxant d-tubo-curarine The level of serum albumin
