Abstract

This study was conducted on ninty renal biopsies obtained from patients with extra-renal malignancies. These biopsies were taken either ultrasound guided or intraoperative. They were collected in the period from 1994-1996 in an attempt to shed some light on the renal changes complicating these extrarenal malignancies and their significance for the clinician. The prepared sections were stained with the routine HX & E stain. The special stains used were: PAS, Masson trichrome, periodic acid silver methenamine and phosphotungestic acid hematoxyline. 1- Glomerular lesions: Out of 90 renal biopsies 46 cases were positive for the presence of glomerular lesions which are classified into: A- FSGS.: It is found in 28 cases of these 46 positive cases representing 60.8%. It was mostly associated with grade I adenocarcinoma of rectosigmoid, bronchogenic adenocarcinoma, grade III I.D.C. of breast and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. B- The second one was FPGN: It was found in 18 cases out of 46 positive cases representing 39%. It was found to be mostly associated with : Grade I adenocarcinoma of rectosigmoid, oat cell
