Abstract The present work is performed to study the pathological effects of lead acetate in rabbits in addition to study and evaluate the role of multivitamins A,D3,E and C. To ameliorate its side effects. One hundred Newzeland rabbits (1 kg body weight, 5months old and of both sexes) were used. They were divided into four equal groups first group was untreated control second group treated with a daily dose of 30 mg/kg body wt. lead acetate orally by stomach tube. The third group treated as second group besides s/c administration of DevedryJect , which contains multiple vitamins A,D3,E and C in dose 0.5 ml. fourth group injected by 0.5 ml s/c with multiple vitamins. five rabbits from each group were sacrificed 7, 14, 30, 60 and 90 days PT. The clinical signs observed among rabbits group (2), which received lead acetate, were retarded growth, poor fur conditions and significant decrease in body weight and 20 % mortalities. The liver revealed congestion, some degenerative changes, focal necrosis, cholangitis, portal lymphocytic infiltration and mild fibroblastic proliferation as well as proliferation of the Kupffer cells. The kidneys showed congestion, some degenerative changes, edema, dilatation of glomerular space, interstitial nephritis and hypertrophy of some renal epithelial cells in addition to intranuclear eosinophilic inclusion bodies. The heart showed congestion in coronary blood vessels, edema, hemorrhage, some degenerative changes and myocardial necrosis. The lungs revealed congestion in pulmonary blood vessels and interalveolar capillaries, peribronchial lymphocytic and vacuolization with hyperplasia in the lining epithelia of the bronchioles in addition to emphysema and thickening in interalveolar septa. The spleen showed congestion, depletion in lymphocytes of the white pulp and perivascular edema. The brain showed congestion, hemorrhage, edema, satellitosis, neuronophagia and encephalomalacia. The stomach showed focal coagulative necrosis of gastric mucosa besides mild congestion and edema in submucosa The small intestine showed desquamation of the lining epithelia, edema, lymphocytic infiltration, hyaline degeneration and cystic dilatation of some gastric glands. The forementioned lesions were more less severe among rabbits group (3), which received 30 mg/kg body weight lead acetate orally by stomach tube and Devedry Ject containing multible vitamins A,D3,E and C with dose 0.5 ml s/c.No lesions could be detected among rabbits group (4), which received multiple vitamins A,D3,E and C Finally it could be concluded that lead acetate as an environmental pollutant leads to serious lesions in most of organs of rabbits particularly by long administration. Multiple vitamins of AD3E and C. could alleviate the associated lesions. |
