Abstract One of the important issues of the wireless local area network (WLAN) is the security. The different security techniques that tried to solve the security bugs in WLAN are still having many bugs such as Denial of Service (DOS) attack. In this work, we introduce a wireless network security model that aims to overcome the WLAN security challenges. It consists of three layers; the authentication layer, the encryption layer and the integrity check layer. We propose and evaluate two techniques; DOS attack detection and inhibition (DDI) technique which is a part of the authentication layer and reconfigurable ondemand (ROD) encryption technique which acts as the encryption layer. The DDI technique aims to detect the DOS attack and prevent the attacker in the future from accessing the network. It uses an intruders? database (IDB), which is created and modified each time an intruder is detected, to inhibit intruders from bringing the network down. The ROD encryption technique enhances the encryption system. It uses a policy engine server to adapt the security level of each client depending on the policy of the enterprise and level of security needed for that client. This technique does not use one encryption mechanism all the time but uses the suitable encryption mechanism at the suitable time and place. |
