Abstract
My critical focus on the devices, functions , variations, and conceptual effects or implications of Spark?s narrative technique logically entails some uncertainly as to whether a short , generalized conclusion can do justice to the range and complexity of the technique I have investigated. Yet this interpretative problem directly illuminates an essential aspects of Spark?s narrative : one rather obvious , but important concluding point to stress must be its technical sophistication, intrinsic variation , and thematic productivity. Arguably , this study presents substantial critical evidence to demonstrate that the narrative technique and resulting thematics of number of Spark?s fictional texts justifies and confirms his position as one of the most important and original writers of early post modernist fiction. Moreover , there are interesting ways in which Spark?s fiction prefigures later postmodernist fiction. Unavoidably , the critical focus of this study on narrative technique as manifested through textual structure delimits the extent to which it has been able to explore the thematic effects of Spark?s narrative technique. Still , many effects have been noted ; and they demonstrate, and the whole , a very close relationship between narrative technique and thematics. This study could be described as conceptual in the sense that it attempts to investigate the relations between Spark?s technical devices and how they manage to reflect the concepts of the study , I have attempted to pay attention not only to technical and thematical and thematic contrasts and parallels, but also to the kinesis and intricate modulations of Spark?s narrative as well.
