Abstract This experimental work was carried out mainly to get more reliable evaluation and deep knowledge about the behavior of reinforced concrete beams with epoxy-bonded external steel plates in flexure and shear. The flexural tests were divided into three groups(A),(B) AND (C). Group (A) and (B) were tested under two-point loading . Full span length of external steel plates were used for beams of group (A). While for group (B) and (c), a relatively small length of external plates were used. Group (C) were tested under single loading and a separation joints were produced in the cross-section of each beam in three selected positions using Aluminum foils. Moreover, the structural performance of four epoxy adhesives has been studied when subjected to shear in two types of specimens. The main results obtained from these extensive laboratory testing may be summarized as follow : 1-The comparative tests of the four epoxy adhesives in bonded steel-concrete open sandwich beams showed that the load-deflection relationships for the open sandwich beams were similar in all respects to those exhibited by reinforced concrete beams with conventional reinforcement. The distributions of strain along the longitudinal axis of the steel plates were mainly dependent on the level of loading; as the load increased the strains increased. |
