Abstract A frequently occurring problem in seismic exploration is to trace rays connecting the specific positions of the source and detectors through any layered medium. Therefore, ray tracing programs have found many applications in the interpretation of seismic data especially in investigation of the structure of the earth‘s upper layers. Ray tracing method is considered to be an inverse technique. It is simple to compare the travel time data computed by ray tracing programs with the measured travel time data and to show the differences between read model of the medium and the synthetic data used for computation. The model is then adjusted iteratively until the calculated and observed travel times are in acceptable agreement. |
