Abstract

The results showed that, irrespective of locality, the bacterial count differed greatly through the various types of soils. The highest population of proteolytic bacteria was noticed in cultivated soils followed by uncultivated whereas soil of swamb salt marches and sand dunes obtained the lowest count with minor differences. On the other hand, uncultivated and cultivated soils were presented by high amylolytic bacterial population with trivial differences in their counts. The same trend was also recorded for proteolytic and amylolytic enumeration, irrespective of the type or locality of soils.
