Abstract
The present work aims to investigate the bacteriological parameters indicating pollution and some physico-chemical characters of waters, in the two water resources of Mansoura, Viz: Damietta branch of the nile and El - Mansouria canal; since the two water-treatment plants in Mansoura receive their water directly from these sources. Water samples were collected monthly from eight sites along the water supplies during March 1977 to February 1978. In controlling the efficiency of coliforms and/or streptococcus faecalis to detect water pollution, the concepts about the efficiency of these two groups and their relations to the existence of pathogenic microbes are contradictory.
