Abstract The corrosion inhibition of aluminium and iron by β-diketo compounds in acid and alkali media has been studied. Thermometric, weight loss and hydrogen evolution techniques applied gave concordant results. The organic additives are strongly adsorbed on the aluminium surface through a two-step process. The order of inhibition efficiency of the β-diketo compounds in 2N hydrochloric acid depends mainly upon the number of adsorption sites in the molecule and their electronic charge density. |
