Abstract

Goal of the research was to detect various novel preparation designs on fracture resistance and marginal integrity of occlusal veneer restorations milled by CAD/CAM technology:
The research included invitro study only in which a fracture resistance test and marginal adaptation test were done. One hundred and twelve occlusal veneer restorations were fabricated in this research. One hundred and twelve occlusal veneer ceramic restorations were fabricated. Samples were divided into four main groups (n=28). Then each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n=14) according to being subjected to thermomechanical loading or not. Each subgroup was further subdivided to 2 classes according to the test, they were subjected to (marginal integrity and fracture resistance).
group I (g 1): Control group with standard preparation of occlusal veneer.
group II (g 2): Occlusal veneer preparation with finish line.
group III (g 3): Occlusal veneer preparation with buccal groove.
group IV (g 4): Occlusal veneer preparation with bilateral slots on the occlusal surface before proximal marginal ridge.
Samples were subjected to marginal integrity test before and after thermocycling and chewing simulator then fracture resistance test was done. The devices that were used for thermocycling was and for mechanical loading was chewing simulator. Measurements of the marginal integrity were performed using digital light microscope before and after thermomechanical loading. Fracture strength test was done by utilizing the UTM and data were registered utilizing computer software.
