Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effect of the proposed ETP program on
developing the oral communication skills of Tourism and Hotels secondary
school students. The quasi-experimental design was used in the study.The
sample of the study consisted of 50 students at Ras El-Bar Tourism and Hotels
School in Damietta governorate, Egypt. The sample of the study included an
experimental group (25) and a control one (25). The researcher used a needs
analysis questionnaire to identify the most required oral communication skills in
the tourism field. In addition, an oral communication skills inventory and a prepost
oral communication test were prepared and used to measure the students’
oral communication performance before and after administering the ETP
program. The proposed ETP program was administered for 10 weeks to the
experimental group, whereas the control group studied the commercial English
curriculum. Findings of the study revealed that the mean scores of the
experimental group were higher than the mean scores of the control group in the
posttest. Findings also indicated the positive effect of the ETP program and the
development of the selected oral communication skills. The study included some
recommendations for curriculum designers and teachers. It also included some
suggestions for future research.
